As a student of our world-class program, you will gain hands-on training in creating effective learning materials for various delivery modes, including face-to-face, online, and blended learning.
We take pride in our commitment to inclusivity, incorporating Indigenous knowledge and perspectives throughout our curriculum. Our program fosters a community-focused environment, encouraging collaboration and advancing positive change in our communities through educational technologies.
Program Structure
- Students complete ten 3-credit courses, including four required core courses and six elective courses.
- New students are accepted into the program three times per year in January, May, and September. Typically, the Master of Educational Technology degree is completed in 2-3 years (must complete within five years).
- You can transfer up to 6 credits of graduate or upper-level undergraduate non-MET courses, from UBC or another university. This requires approval from the MET Academic Advisor.
This course-based Master of Educational Technology does not require completion of a thesis or major final project. Students keen to complete independent projects may choose to complete up to 6 credits of supervised independent study.
Courses
Our online courses offer a balanced blend of practical experience using new technologies to create instructional materials and research-based learning approaches.
They focus on contemporary learning theory, effective e-learning material design, and leadership skills for managing learning technologies and organizational change.
They also explore the administrative, technological, and cultural implications and challenges of learning technologies, including strategic planning, budgeting, and organizational culture.

Applicants with International Credentials:
Please check the UBC Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies website for admissions credentials by country).

MET values professional experience in both formal school-based settings and in informal learning environments, where learning occurs outside of structured curriculum learning environments.
