Celebrating 20 Years of the MET Program

September 2022 marks the 20th Anniversary of the launch of UBC’s Master of Educational Technology Program. In the past two decades, MET students located in 61 different countries have earned 1324 graduate degrees and 251 graduate certificates. Our graduates have gone on to employment in many fields, including K-12 and post-secondary education in Canada and internationally, libraries and museums, film and media, government departments, educational publishing, the military, and educational roles in healthcare, corporate, and tourism sectors. We’ll be showcasing the work of some of our graduates through the coming months on these webpages.

MET is distinguished as the first fully online program at UBC, originally developed by the Faculty of Education in partnership with UBC’s Distance Education and Technology (DET) unit and Tec de Monterrey (Mexico). Since 2009 it has been entirely administered through UBC’s Faculty of Education, and has gained a reputation for excellence among graduate programs in Educational Technology worldwide.

MET’s success and growth over the past 20 years illustrates the commitment of MET students, staff, faculty, and alumni, who have collectively paved the way for future MET community members. In recent years, MET has been focusing on a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, decolonization, and anti-racism (EDIDA). Our staff and faculty are committed to the design of pedagogically sound, current, and responsive courses that honour all peoples and voices. Building on this work, we are looking forward to a gala year focused on Inclusive Making incorporating a series of events and initiatives, and culminating in an international conference in May 2023.
