“I started seriously exploring the connections between digital technologies and learning as part of my dissertation research on historical skill building via gameplay and game design. Through these projects, I learned how impactful the integration of technologies such as digital games can be in education when their use is approached critically. In addition, I witnessed firsthand the benefit of empowering learners as designers and immersing them in projects that direct them to think through the processes and decision-making that accompany design and development. Since joining MET, I have had the privilege to teach multiple courses across the program. In addition, I am a co-author of ETEC 565T: Ethical, Critical, and Professional use of Generative AI in Teaching and Learning. I am also the author of the revised ETEC 510: The Design of Technology-Supported Learning Environments.

As an educator, I am deeply invested in finding ways to facilitate critical skills building and media literacy in education. In my research, this has involved using digital games to foster new engagements with history to develop and sharpen key skills in historical scholarship and thinking. However, I believe this extends beyond any one discipline. In my view, the development of critical skills and literacies is essential for meaningful and active participation in the world outside of the institution. What I strive to bring to MET are opportunities for students to engage in inclusive, playful, and meaningful learning projects that expand their view of how education can work while grounding them in knowledges that are helpful for their development as learners and professionals. “
