Dr. Leah Macfadyen recipient of 2022 Language and Literacy Educational Leadership Award

Congratulations to Drs. Leah Macfadyen and Marianne McTavish on being the recipients of the 2022 The Language and Literacy Educational Leadership Award (LLELA)!

The LLELA has been created through the generosity of an anonymous donor to recognize excellence among Educational Leadership faculty in the Department of Language and Literacy Education at the University of British Columbia. The annual award has a cash value of $10,000 Canadian dollars to be used for future leadership projects by the recipient. In addition, some years may include giving an honorary award worth $1000.00 to EL faculty recognizing significant contributions to the Department, Education Faculty, and University at the end of their careers.

In this inaugural year, the LLELA goes to Dr. Leah Macfadyen for her previous work on learning analytics and her future endeavours in indigenizing online spaces for both the Language and Literacy Education department and the Faculty’s Masters of Educational Technology (MET) program. Dr. Macfadyen’s work crosses both units.

This year the honorary LLELA has been awarded to Dr. Marianne McTavish, whose years of service have included being Associate Dean of Teacher Education including during the transition to online teaching throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

The award committee wishes to congratulate both recipients and thank them for their dedication to the improvement of teaching and learning in the Faculty of Education at UBC and beyond.

The above was initially sent by Dr. Kedrick James to the Faculty of Education community.
